This is an original miniature watercolour painting by Jenny Chapman. It shows a beautiful spring sunset over The Small Isles (part of the Inner Hebrides), seen on 24th April 2009 just before eight o’clock in the evening. It looked particularly lovely because the mountain peaks on the island of Rum were wreathed with white clouds lit up in pink and mauve colours by the last rays of the setting sun in the west. The effect only lasted for a few minutes, then faded as the sun sank below the horizon. In the far north the sky was glowing bright and clear, but in the foreground masses of clouds hung over the islands, forming a very strong diagonal pattern with their edges tinged pink and gold. In front of Rum you can see the little low-lying island of Muck, and the Sea of the Hebrides, coloured violet by the sunset.

Work on this painting is described and illustrated in the Artist’s Journal entries for 10th May 2009 and 24th May 2009.

This painting is framed in a handmade resin frame by Dave Williams, painted antique gold, with real miniature glass and complete with a gold-plated chain.
