This is an original miniature watercolour painting by Jenny Chapman. It shows a dramatic scene in late January, shortly after a big winter storm. In the foreground a wind-battered tree on the shore of the Sound of Mull stands starkly against the light, with one large branch, broken in the recent storm, dangling down to the right. It is evident that several other branches have broken in the past. Although the storm has now passed the sky is still very cloudy, but with bright light shining through the gaps in the clouds and producing dazzling silver patches on the surface of the water.
Earlier stages of this painting are illustrated and described in the Artist’s Journal entries for 31st January 2009 and 4th February 2009.
Unframed preliminary Indian ink studies for this painting can be seen in the Gallery of Miniature Drawings.
The painting is presented in a hand-made wooden frame with real miniature glass and is ready to hang, complete with a silver-plated chain.
This painting is a unique work of art and no prints of it will be made. It is initialled on the front and signed both on the back of the painting itself (not visible when framed) and on the archival quality backing board, which is sealed to the frame in the traditional way with miniature paper tape. A unique code number is marked on the back, and a signed certificate of authenticity with this code number is also supplied.
