Miniature Art for a Miniature World
Only occasionally do you see truly original works of art by a trained artist that are made specifically for the miniature world. But that’s exactly what you will always find at MacAvon Miniatures.
Real Art for the Dolls House
As one of our favourite buyers commented, MacAvon Miniatures are “real art for the dolls house”, or for any other miniature environment, of course. And they are created by an artist who herself loves the miniature world.
Every picture is made specially for the miniature world of dolls houses, room boxes and other miniature environments – as though it had been painted by a real live miniature artist. And every picture is created through the traditional process of artistic interpretation based on personal observation of the real world. (The only exceptions are occasional special commissions from customers’ photographs.)
Every landscape and view that you see in the pictures on this site has been observed, studied and recorded by the artist personally. Even when the same scene is painted more than once, every new picture is started from scratch, without reference to any previous painting of the same scene. This gives the work a freshness and an authentic quality which you just can’t find in paintings copied from other people’s images or pictures. And many years of formal training and practice mean that these works of art also have a highly distinctive style which is unique to this artist.
Of course there are many excellent professional artists working in miniature – but they create their art for the full-size world. Although their paintings are miniatures, they are mounted and presented in frames much larger than the image itself, and they are displayed on normal walls and in galleries. Many of these artists are highly trained and create impressive original works of art, but they do not create art for the miniature world.
On the other hand, there are many artists who do produce pictures for the miniature world, but the majority of these lack training, and their work is frequently derived or copied from that of other artists, or from stock photographs or books of old images. Some of the copyists produce impressive and beautiful reproductions which are well suited to period dolls houses and similar settings, but they are still copies of other artists’ work.
